Mary Carroll was founder and Managing Director of Titelbild Subtitling and Translation GmbH, Berlin from 1991 until 2011. She has extensive experience as an audiovisual translator, consultant and trainer and has lectured and published widely in the AVT field. She is co-author with Jan Ivarsson of Subtitling (Transedit, 1998), and co-editor of Media for All 3. AVT and Media Accessibility at the Crossroads (Rodopi, 2012) and Media for All 9. Sketching Tomorrow’s Mediascape (JAT, Journal of Audiovisual Translation, forthcoming in 2022). Mary Carroll is a member of ESIST, the European Association for Studies in Screen Translation. She was instrumental in launching and coordinating the ESIST International Comparative Subtitling Project to document the status quo of broadcast subtitling at the turn of the 21st century. She is on the steering committee of the international Languages and the Media conference. In 2013 she co-launched the international InDialog conference series.
